Minimum Hardware Requirements

Server

  • Processor: Intel® or AMD® processor 3.0 GHz or greater, dual-core or multiple-processor architecture is strongly recommended
  • RAM: Minimum 16GB, more recommended
  • Hard Disk: Minimum 20GB of Free hard disk space (Note: Size of the Project(s) Ultimately affects Required Hard Disk Space. Rule of Thumb: 1GB Free for every 350 Miles of Plant)
  • Input Device: Mouse or digitizing tablet
  • Output Device: Most industry-standard devices are supported. Works with output devices supported by Windows
  • Video: Graphics card supported by DirectX 9.0c. Multi-monitor configurations supported

Workstation

  • Processor: Intel® or AMD® processor 3.0 GHz or greater dual-core or multiple-processor architecture is strongly recommended
Note: MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries 4) requires a CPU that supports SSE2
  • RAM: Minimum 8GB, more recommended
  • Hard Disk: Minimum 10GB of Free hard disk space
  • Input Device: Mouse or digitizing tablet
  • Output Device: Most industry-standard devices are supported. Works with output devices supported by Windows
  • Video: Graphics card supported by DirectX 9.0c. Multi-monitor configurations supported

Network

  • Bandwidth: 500 Mbit/s and 1 Gbit/s recommended for networking, bandwidth represents the overall capacity of the connection. The greater the capacity, the more likely that better performance will result. Note that the numbers given here reflect actual, not theoretical throughput.
  • Latency: < 5 ms minimum, < 1 ms recommended Latency is another element that contributes to network speed. The term latency refers to any of several kinds of delays typically incurred in processing of network data. A low latency network improves performance.
